Golden Shiner (Notemigonus crysoleucas)
Threadfin Shad
(Dorosoma petenense) The sides of the
golden shiner are silvery with a dusky band when small. The sides become more golden as it become
larger. Its back is dark green to
olive. A mature golden shiner will
usually be between 3 and 5 inches in length. The threadfin
shad received its name from the thread-like final ray of its dorsal fin. The sides are silvery white with a black
spot on the upper side behind the gill.
Its back is grey to blue. A
mature threadfin shad will usually be between 5 and 6 inches in length. Tennessee
